Telefonica is a multinational telecommunication company that began as Compañia Telefonica Nacional de España (CTNE) in 1924 in Madrid, Spain. Through its 89 years of history, Telefonica has accomplished many milestones that have lead to continuous world-wide expansion and future ongoing success.

Telefonica is one of the World's leading telecommunication operators. It provides communication, information and entertainment services all over the globe. The expansion mainly focused in Europe and South America but it currently operates in over 24 countries serving 317 million happy customers with the help of our partners and affiliates.





Being Telefonica one of the most international profiles in the telecommunication sector has allowed them the opportunity to grow immensely by creating various brands.


Telefonica is the most powerful brand which its original principle is to constantly bring new technology to its customers. It´s role is to uphold the continuous augmentation strategy by helping Telefonica to establish an institutional position in the global market with a greater impact.


Movistar is a key brand to the constant development of Telefonica. Ever since the early 1990´s Movistar, originally called MoviLine began to establish an analogue mobile service which had success in Spain and decided to expand to South America due to acquiring control in Argentina and Chile. On a global standpoint, this brand and business brought together the evolution of landline and mobile products and services.



02 is a European based brand which offers mobile, broadband and landline telecommunication services in the United Kingdom, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ireland. This brand has created strong links with the other Telefonica brands by following its values which are: Bold, Open, Trusted and Clear. Thanks to these values, the Telefonica company now empowers its role with its shareholders, investors and multinationals.

Vivo is currently the leading brand within the mobile telecommunication service providers in Brazil. Since its launch in 2003, this brand believes in connecting society and easy access to information through its services. Being connected with their customers is fundamental to its values due to aiming to help its customers for any issue in order for both ends to enjoy the best connected life.

Telefonica´s Operations
Telefonica´s business out of Spain accounts for almost 80% of our operations, but we are leaders at our home market and hold the 9th position worldwide.

We are a listed company with more than 1.5 million shareholders, and our capital is traded on IBEX35 but also on London, New York, Lima and Buenos Aires.

Telefonica serves about 215 million customers in South America, therefore this continent is very strategic for our business operations.

This company has been operating since 1924. Due to its tremendous expandion and global success, in 1945 the Spanish state acquired 80% of Telefonica´s shares.
